10 Unique Reasons to visit Hodgson House

We keep asking our guests why they come to Hodgson House, Echuca's B&B on the Murray River and here are the most common answers to what  makes a visit to Hodgson House unique:

bulletThe River. It's there, just a peaceful 150 metre walk through the red gum forest with no roads to cross - yes, the Murray River is waiting for you!
bulletMurray River landscape. Just sit by the riverside picnic table with a bottle of wine and take in a sunset. Enjoy the passing parade of boats or simply watch a duck float by. Is there a better, real Australian outback experience?
bulletRiver red gums. The trees come up to the house, they're a highlight of the garden and they are lit at night - you don't get views like that in motels or apartments. Then there's the 400 year old box gum, right next to the house that's a haven for birds!
bulletBirds. The kookaburras are always mentioned. rosellas,  corellas, choughs, magpies, butcherbirds, mudlarks, ducks, honeyeaters, galahs and even an occasional owl.  There's so many come to visit.
bulletRiver walk to Echuca. It's 3.5 kilometres by the Murray River walk  - along the Murray to the junction of the Campaspe River and then follow it to the historic Port of Echuca - easy!  So much better than staying in a suburban street.
bulletThe quiet. Yes, there are frogs and sometimes a kookaburra or a magpie will wake you in the morning but its easy to sleep or simply to sit outside and watch the stars.
bulletThe sky. You don't get the biggest show on earth in towns - there's sunrise, sunset, the moon and of course, the stars. Our clear evenings make it easy to sit and watch for a shooting star!
bulletSleep. Fussy sleepers invariably love the comfortable beds and the dark rooms at night. A good night's sleep followed by a hearty breakfast and you're ready to explore.
bulletSpace. Hard to explain but when you live in a city and then come to a house set on 2.5 acres with a nature reserve next door, you've got room to escape and enjoy the fresh air.
bulletOpen fires in the guest lounge. The redgum fire in the lounge with a glass of port and a chocolate is a perfect end to a long day. In the winter you can have a fire by the river and in the summer swim in the heated pool and enjoy the view.

At Hodgson House, we always treat our guests as friends, help them with dinner bookings, advise them on activities, cook a hearty breakfast and let them know we care about their comfort.
