| Hodgson House, AAA 4 1/2 star rated, Echuca's B&B on the Murray River
Located on the Murray River at Echuca, Hodgson House is a haven by the River, which offers you the combination of country-style living with river access, red gum forests and close proximity (3 kilometers) to Echuca's historical wharf area. One of our latest guest book entries in June, 2008 was Janelle & Tony from Newcastle, who wrote "Wonderful warm hosts as warm as their cosy fires. Great fishing, beautiful accommodation and a cute dog that loves walks. The private dinner is something very special and amazing! The best B&B experience we have had!" Janelle & Tony went fishing with Murray River Fishing Tours and caught a 70cm Murray Cod. Ben, our local chef cooked the cod for them at Hodgson House making it a very special occasion. (A big thank you to both of you as we had the leftover Murray Cod for dinner the next night and yes - it tasted fabulous!) Anne hates to disappoint potential guests and so we recommend if you have a special weekend planned, call us, book early and reserve your room - we have never charged a cancellation fee (though we always reserve the right if 3 days notice is not given). Similarly, we always recommend to our guests to book the restaurant of their choice early to avoid disappointment - there's a great choice of restaurants in Echuca with food to suit everyone's taste!
Traditional B&B with cooked breakfast and homemade goodies!Anne and Allen of Hodgson House have taken the fundamental rules governing the traditional English B&B - good rooms and a great breakfast with friendly, welcoming hosts - and simply updated them a bit. Originally their family home, Hodgson House is a modern home with a wonderful vista over the redgum forest to the Murray River. Each bedroom has its own ensuite and separate entrance. Like in the better, traditional English B&B's, you are pampered with home-made goodies and are given the chance to taste local produce whenever possible. Anne makes her jam and bakes biscuits and cakes. Orange juice is always squeezed fresh in the morning from Perricoota oranges while local wine and port is also offered. "self contained" is a dirty word at Hodgson House, with Anne and Allen cooking, cleaning and providing informed local knowledge on the best places to visit, eat and shop in Echuca. You are there to be welcomed and to rest - not having to cook your own breakfasts or wash dishes - it's your getaway and you deserve a little luxury! There are many guest comments we have appreciated such as Jacqui & John from Castlemaine who stayed and said, "One of the best! A B&B is much more than just a 'bed'. It is all the other things, but none more so than the personality of the hosts. So here, we had it all!" Since opening in June, 2004, we've met so many wonderful people and it's nice to know we are still doing it right - Carlie & Patrick who stayed with us in January, 2008 said, "Terrific place to stay - the food, wine, pool, river, bed, room, little dog, hosts, chairs (for the river), platter, etc - all perfect! The highlight was sitting on the riverbank, toes in the water drinking the included rosé, watching the passing parade of boats after eating the included platter. " With only two bedrooms, the privacy and service you want is assured but you'll need to book early for that special occasion to avoid disappointing your loved one!
