Spoil yourselves relaxing by the Murray River, listen to the birds and the haunting sound of a paddlesteamer as it makes its way up the river, walk along a river track away from the bustle of town and unwind.

Life in a big city is so hectic and what do you want in a break? Peace and tranquility where you are close to nature. When you sit at our private picnic table and enjoy the wonderful view of the Murray River landscape, you'll understand why we love it too!

Sit on the Terrace and listen to the birds. There's no guarantee what you'll see - kookaburras, rosellas, magpies, choughs, ducks and host of others - if you feel energetic, the riverside walk along the Murray and Campaspe into the historic Port precinct will give you ample opportunity to enjoy them.

We believe we're doing something right, recent guests from Scotland - John & Elizabeth - wrote "Back again!! Best B&B we have ever been to - thank you both!" We've always modelled our B&B on the hospitality you get at the best B&B's in Britain, so we're are very pleased with their comments.

We've had the first fire for the season and there's nothing better than sitting in front of the open fire with a glass of port before going to bed after a day of sifhtseeing.

Located on the Murray River at Echuca, Hodgson House is a haven by the River, which offers you the combination of country-style living with river access, red gum forests and close proximity (3 kilometers) to Echuca's historical wharf area.

We offer free WIFI access for all our guests, so don't forget to bring your notebook, iphone or Android if you need access to the internet and email. We've just received the latest Downton Abbey (Series 2) DVD collection from the UK - if you're a fan and want to watch some episodes (without the ads) just ask and we'll put the DVD on for you.

For those wondering about our Star rating. We were rated 4 1/2 star by AAA Tourism from 2004 to 2009, however AAA ratings are typically based on motel-style accommodation and do not take into account ambiance or guest service. Like the majority of other B&B's in Australia, we decided that the AAA rating is not appropriate for a B&B and withdrew from the program in 2010.

Take a few minutes to see for yourselves what others have discovered in our Guest Book. The Age/Sydney Morning Herald Good Weekend included Hodgson House in the their 52 Weekends Away published in 2008 - the only Murray River property included in their list for 2008. Oddly, no Murray River properties were included the 2009 or 2010 guide and we're sure, that the Murray River is an iconic destination that every Australian should want to visit! There's certainly more to Australia than a visit to our coastal beaches.

We're excited that a new brochure titled Native birds of the Echuca - Moama District Has been prepared by Echuca Landcare Group and Echuca and District Branch of Bird Observation & Conservation Australia. Though paddlesteamers and history are important reasons to visit Echuca, the landscape, forests and native fauna add an enchantment to be found elsewhere.

We quickly gathered a supply of these brochures and have placed them in our compendiums for guest use.

Hodgson House has a a dedicated page to our feathered friends, whether it's a Kookaburra, Magpie or Rosella, they are also welcomed at the house. Many of our guests have told us we have more birds around the house than they have ever seen - of course, we can never guarantee that they will arrive while a guest is here but they do add that special feeling to the forest. Anne hates to disappoint potential guests and so we recommend if you have a special weekend planned, call us, book early and reserve your room - we have never charged a cancellation fee (though we always reserve the right if 2 days notice is not given). Similarly, we always recommend to our guests to book the restaurant of their choice early to avoid disappointment - there's a great choice of restaurants in Echuca with food to suit everyone's taste and Anne would be happy to discuss which one suits you best!

Hodgson House is Echuca's only B&B on the Murray River!

Traditional B&B with cooked breakfast and homemade goodies!

Anne and Allen of Hodgson House have taken the fundamental rules governing the traditional English B&B - good rooms and a great breakfast with friendly, welcoming hosts - and simply updated them a bit. Originally their family home, Hodgson House is a modern home with a wonderful vista over the redgum forest to the Murray River.

Each bedroom has its own ensuite and separate entrance. Like in the better, traditional English B&B's, you are pampered with home-made goodies and are given the chance to taste local produce whenever possible. Anne makes her jam and bakes biscuits and cakes. Orange juice is always squeezed fresh in the morning from Perricoota oranges while local wine and port is also offered.

"Self Contained" are dirty words at Hodgson House, with Anne and Allen cooking, cleaning and providing informed local knowledge on the best places to visit, eat and shop in Echuca. You are there to be welcomed and to rest - not having to cook your own breakfasts or wash dishes - it's your getaway and you deserve a little luxury!
